Facsimilization 10 Feb 2018 – 25 Mar
Facsimilization Artist Talk, 12 March 2018 5.30pm – 7.30pm
Facsimilization is the reworking of a mural by Alasdair Gray commissioned for a private home in Glasgow and completed in 1965, but since unseen by the general public.
The project was conceived by Roger Farnham, an engineer, photographer and printmaker who has known Gray for 30 years and who had known that the artist was keen to modify the original work. Artist Lin Chau, who worked with Gray on the Hillhead Subway mural project worked closely with them in translating photographs of the original work into the new version.
The original plan was to create a facsimile however the project developed into reworking the imagery. Large format photography and computer and modern printing technology has been used to create a full size (4m high) inkjet print. The exhibition also includes wood engravings based on details from the original artwork and a video about the project by Alexander Farnham.
